Spiritual Discipline

Make the most of your summer for Christ! We've developed a "summer bucket list" to equip you to be intentional with your time, relationships and family over the summer months. Some items below are linked to further resources and items marked (F) are great for families!

LOVE God in worship

Prioritize Sunday worship with your family

Set an alarm to engage in prayer throughout the day

Begin a gratefulness journal and spend time praising God at the end of each day

Commit to fasting in some way

Have a few friends over for breakfast and watch church online together

(F) Begin to teach your kids about tithing and encourage them to bring offering to church

(F) Begin a regular time of family worship (read, pray, sing)

(F) Fast from screens for a day

(F) Create a prayer chain with construction paper - pray for someone each day, write their name on the link and add it to the chain

(F) Take a prayer walk through your neighborhood

GROW in knowledge & understanding of God

Read through the Gospels in a month

Begin a Bible reading plan to read through the Bible in a year (the YouVersion Bible app has a ton of options!)

Study the Spiritual Disciplines using “Habits of Grace” by David Mathis or “Spiritual Disciplines for the Christian Life” by Donald Whitney

Memorize a longer passage of scripture

Memorize a verse a week

Study the characteristics of God

(F) Study the fruit of the spirit (snag Fruit of the Spirit cards from the T&V)

(F) Memorize a verse each month (snag ABC verse cards from the T&V)

(F) Teach your kids the habit of a daily quiet time

(F) Use the New City Catechism (there’s a kids version, and an app!) to walk through theological foundations

SERVE the needs of others

Serve your spouse in an unexpected way

Pick-up groceries for a family or friend in need

Call a younger friend and encourage them with the Word of God

Reach out to family or friends you haven’t connected with in a while

Invite those within the church family over for a meal and fellowship together

Connect with one of our other local ministry partners and find out how to serve with them

(F) Collect and donate food items to the Clemmons Food Pantry, Storehouse for Jesus, Rescue Mission or City Lights

(F) Help your kids think about how they might serve a friend or sibling

SHARE the Good News of the Gospel

Be intentional about having Gospel conversations everyday!

Start being a regular somewhere (grocery store, post office, bank, gym, etc)

Leverage your social media presence for the Gospel

Learn to share the Gospel using 3 Circles: A Life Conversation Guide

Read and apply the message of “Sharing Jesus without Freaking Out” by Alvin Reid

(F) Invite your non-believing friends over for a meal

(F) Host a neighborhood cookout or block party

(F) Write scripture or share Gospel truth with chalk on your driveway
