Covid Season Updates

10/21/20

October 21 | 2020

This month we've been focusing on a specific initiative of the ministry called "From Floor to Bed" with City Lights Ministry. This project provides beds and items to children in the community without a bed to call their own. Our goal is to build beds and provide 200 "bed-in-a-bag" kits with everything a child needs for a safe and comfortable night's sleep. There is only one more hands on opportunity to serve for the month on October 24!

Here's how to participate:

Bed Building | Head to City Lights to actually build beds - no experience is necessary. Serve from 9am - 12pm on Saturday, October 24.

Packing & Praying | Come by the kids building to pack “bed-in-a-bag” kits and pray for the children receiving them. Serve for a 1-hr floating time slot between 1 - 6pm on Saturday, October 24.

Donate Financially | Purchase a CG face covering on a Sunday morning for $5 (all proceeds go toward City Lights) OR donate online through the website and choose the fund "Local Outreach".

indoor services & launching cgkids

It has been so good to be back together in person again! On November 1, the Clemmons Campus will move indoors for two services on Sunday mornings: 9am and 10:45am. We will also be launching CGKids programming for babies - 5th grade at all campuses on that day. More details regarding November 1 opportunities and CGKids programming will be shared this coming Sunday. Read the latest information about indoor services right here.

Harvest at Home

In the midst of Covid and our state’s current restrictions, we are unable to host Harvest Celebration on campus this year. While we’re certainly disappointed, we are encouraged by the NEW opportunity it presents! This year, we are encouraging the church family to partner together in taking Harvest to the people by hosting a “Harvest at home” and taking the spirit of Harvest to your neighborhood! Our heart is to see the core values Harvest has always been built on become the foundation for Harvests at home all around our community. Those core values being: hospitality, generosity, prayer and the Gospel.

We fully understand that people find themselves in different places and levels of comfort with all that’s going on related to Covid. Therefore, we have come up with all kinds of ideas for all kinds of comfort levels and want to challenge each of you to think intentionally about how you can look and love like Jesus this Halloween. Learn more about this unique opportunity right here!

We are praising God for a wonderful first week back in person! We hope to see many more joining us for church on campus in the weeks to come. If you do not yet feel comfortable attending an in-person service, that is okay! We are continuing to provide a complete online worship experience every single week at the same place and time as always.

A quick note about the weather for Outdoor Worship at Clemmons Campus:

Rain prior to Sunday

In anticipation of rain, we have adjusted the location of the stage and seating in the lower lot to seat everyone on the gravel and in the parking lot (and out of a muddy field!)

Rain on Sunday morning

We are watching the forecast closely and intend to make a decision on outdoor services on Saturday. If the decision is made to cancel the outdoor service due to rain, no other activities will be held on the Clemmons Campus that morning (adult or student life groups).

Sherwood Forest

Because Sherwood Forest is meeting inside at 10am, they will be meeting rain or shine!

To stay up to date on Sunday service changes - check the website, social media and your email!

LIVE ON MISSION | A 6-WEEK EQUIPPING SERIES

Living on mission is for all followers of Jesus and happens in the everyday! If we are to be sent like Jesus, then we should stop expecting people to come to church, and we should start taking the church to people. After all, the church is not a building or a service - it is the people of God on the mission of Christ. The Church is us! We just need to go with one another into our neighborhoods, places of employment, kid’s schools, and favorite hangouts to make disciples. This week, we launched week 1 of our new equipping series all about living on mission. Mitch Monroe sets the stage as we look at why we've been sent and where we find that in God's Word. Watch week 1 right here on the Resources page.

CHURCH ONLINE CHALLENGES | TECHNOLOGY IS GREAT, RIGHT?

First of all, we are so sorry for the trouble that some had with accessing Church Online this past weekend. If you were watching the 11am service and it cut off early - that issue was on us and has been resolved! And again, we apologize for the confusion.

However, if you ran into an error message from the "Watch Live" link on the website or CG mobile app that claimed we are "no longer running services", we need your help to resolve that issue! The challenge is not in the link on the CG website or app, but rather an old link that your web browser has "cached" or saved.

Here's how to fix it!

1. Clear your browser history

A quick google search can walk you through how to go about this on your particular browser - it should be just a few clicks!

2. Type the correct Church Online link into your browser

centergrovechurch.online.church

3. Head to cglife.org or open the mobile app and select the "Watch Live" or "Church Online" link previously not working for you

At this point, you should be redirected to the correct church online page showing the upcoming service day and time

If you are still having issues after these 3 steps or would simply rather have someone walk you through it over the phone, please reach out and we will be glad to assist you!

"The things we must never do are forget who Jesus is, who we are in Jesus, and what we are destined for with Jesus."

Last weekend's message provided practical insight into managing our differences with others in the things that matter much but not most, and least but not much. Christianity has never been about "Jesus and me" - for if we genuinely follow and live for Jesus, we will always live for others!

Catch Sunday's message on the website, CG app, Apple TV or Roku today. Full services are also now available so you don't miss a thing!

WEEKLY EQUIPPING

Just what are doctrinal essentials and how do we grow in them? This week, Jenna shared a handful of resources to help us do just that – understand better the vital, universal and non-negotiable beliefs of the Christian faith. The more we know who God is and understand the magnitude of what He has done – the more we will love Him as we are humbled by His Truth. Catch the full equipping moment right here on the Resources page.

PARTNERING WITH PARENTS

During this season of church online, we have been providing weekly lesson material and teaching videos for our CGKids and CGStudents through the website. However, in anticipation of regathering on our campuses in the coming weeks, some of what we've been providing will change going forward. Beginning this week, we will no longer provide teaching videos and puppet skits, but will continue to provide the lesson material for families to access. As we re-evaluate the best ways to equip parents to disciple their kids amidst the reality of daily life, we'd love to hear from you - our parents! If you have ideas, needs, challenges or victories you've experienced that would provide insight into how the church can best come alongside you, simply reach out. We would love to talk further with you!

August 19 | 2020

"We must know how to measure what matters most, what matters much, and what matters little in the body of Christ."

Last weekend's message is one to listen to more than once as Dr. Corts led us to consider the essentials, non-essentials and preferences of our faith. Watch or listen on the website, CG app, Apple TV or Roku today. Full services are also now available so you don't miss a thing!

WEEKLY EQUIPPING

This week's equipping is for our middle and high school students and their parents! Philip shares practical resources for students to get into God's Word regularly along with two of our favorite books for parents of teens. Catch the full equipping moment right here on the Resources page.

SCHOOL YEAR ASSISTANCE

For most families, school has begun and we are off to the races! We know that many have already come face-to-face with challenges and frustrations around the daily school grind and want you to know that your church is here. We are praying and ready to walk alongside you. Whether you need technical support, aren't quite sure how to jumpstart school at home with multiple kids, or just need a break for an hour or two, let us know - we're here to help! Reach out to info@cglife.org to request assistance.

August 12 | 2020

"Our commitment is to ONE cause, ONE person - His name is Jesus!"

Last weekend, we launched a new sermon series "Living as One in a Divided World". We're walking together through Romans 14 and the call to be united as God's people in this broken and hurting world. Join in Sunday mornings at 9:15 or 11am or catch up during the week on the website or the CG app! Full services are now available so you don't miss a thing.

WEEKLY EQUIPPING

The final week of our 3-part equipping series on marriage and our relationships is up! This series has taught by one of our Center Grove family members, Ellen Fox, who is a licensed marriage and family therapist. Catch the full series right here on the Tools for Growth page!

SCHOOL YEAR ASSISTANCE

With the start of school inching closer, we recognize that many families are facing new challenges like they never have before. We want you to know that your church is here for you and praying for you! If there is anyway we can help meet a need, do not hesitate to reach out and ask. In fact, we've already heard of families needing help with technology. If you are tech-savvy and can work with us to assist families, let us know! Reach out to info@cglife.org to offer help OR request assistance.

OFFICE DROPBOX

We now have a new, more secure dropbox outside of the church offices for paperwork or financial gifts needing dropped off. The box is to the right of the front doors, fixed to the building and locked at all times. If you have questions about giving, reach out to our finance team at karenl@cglife.org.

August 9 | 2020

The latest update from our leadership team on Center Grove's plans to re-open and continue ministry in the weeks and months ahead.

Our strategy is to maximize ministry opportunities as we continue to minimize risks by taking a gradual approach to reopening. Below are our current plans for the coming months, taking steps towards reopening and doing church in the “new normal” that is ahead. Of course, as things are continually changing around us, we will make adjustments as needed along the way.

Loving God in Worship

During August and September, services will continue to remain online only. We encourage families, life groups and student small groups to host “watch parties” on Sunday mornings and discuss the message after the service.

We are also exploring a church-wide week of prayer and fasting during the month of September with opportunities to gather with others for prayer, virtual or in person.

In October, we plan to hold our first in-person gathering for all at the Clemmons Campus. It will be a family worship service and likely held outside.

At any and all gatherings, we will practice social distancing and other safety measures as appropriate for the gathering.

Growing Together in Christ

Many of our life groups are already meeting in homes or on the Clemmons Campus during the week. We will continue to provide space for groups upon request, but cannot provide childcare at this time. In lieu of childcare, we will offer a reimbursement program for families organizing their own childcare to attend life group. More information will be available through your life group leader.

We intend to launch back all life groups (Sunday and weekday) with our in-person gatherings beginning in October.

In October, we plan to launch education and discipleship opportunities through both 6-week training courses and small mentoring groups for men and women.

Serving the Needs of Others

From September to December, we will adopt a different evangelical ministry partner each month to serve and pray for as a church. Each month will provide specific ways for members, families and life groups to pray for the ministry and serve in a meaningful way.

Sharing the Gospel

In this season, we know that the opportunity to share and impact of the Gospel is great. In the coming months, we will be strategic in creating and sharing content on social media for you to use in your own sphere of influence on social media. This content will point people to Christ and the new life He gives and equip you to invite others to online and in-person services.

We also plan to include evangelism courses as a part of the 6-week online training courses beginning in October.

Finally, while we are sad to say that Harvest at Center Grove will not be possible this year, we are excited for the opportunity and potential impact of a new kind of Harvest, “Harvest at Home”. With this opportunity, we get to take the spirit of Harvest into our neighborhoods and to the people all around the Triad, looking and loving like Jesus to the lost right next door.

We will continue to communicate details on all of this and more in the coming weeks. If you have questions at any point please reach out at info@cglife.org.

"When God's children determine to cover sin and call it something less, God determines to uncover it and call it what it is. When God's children determine to uncover sin and call it what it is, God determines to cover it and call it what it is: gone."

Last weekend, Dr. Corts pointed us again to our joy - this time from Psalm 32. We looked at how our joy is lost, how it can be restored, and how it can be made deeper. Missed worship on Sunday? Head to the website or the CG App to catch up! Full services are now available so you don't miss a thing.

WEEKLY EQUIPPING

Week 2 of our 3-part equipping series on marriage and our relationships is up! This series is taught by one of our Center Grove family members, Ellen Fox, who is a licensed marriage and family therapist. "Joy is expected in the worship and in the lives of God’s people. They should live all of life praising and thanking, waiting and trusting with joy!"

Last weekend, Dr. Corts was back with a call to joy in all of life from Psalm 33. He reminded us that our joy is ultimately anchored in the steadfast love and faithfulness of God. Missed worship on Sunday? Head to the website or the CG App to catch up! Full services are now available so you don't miss a thing.

This series is taught by one of our Center Grove family members, Ellen Fox, who is a licensed marriage and family therapist. Because these equipping moments are a little bit longer, they won't be shown as a part of the service - but rather made available on the website, Instagram and Facebook each Sunday. Whether or not you are married, you will not want to miss this series and the Gospel perspective that Ellen shares with us for this time and for our relationships. Catch week 1 of the series here!

"How precious to me are your thoughts, O God! How vast is the sum of them! If I would count them, they are more than the sand." Psalm 139:17-18

Last weekend, Joseph Tucker closed out our summer series with Psalm 139, encouraging us with the truth of God's intimate knowledge of us. He sees us, He knows us and He is with us! If you missed joining us Sunday, catch the message again on the website or the CG app.

WEEKLY EQUIPPING

This week's equipping moment is for our CGKid and their parents! Parents in this current season are feeling more than ever the weight of making sure their kids hear and know the message of the Gospel and the truth of God’s Word. This week we share some great books and other tools that you can use at breakfast, around the dinner table and at bedtime to be intentional about discipling your kids toward the God who made them and loves them more than mom and dad ever could. Catch the full equipping moment and related resources here.

CELEBRATING SUMMER ADVENTURE

Summer Adventure 2020 is a wrap! Though this year's event looked a bit different, we are no less grateful for the families and volunteers involved! We're praising God for the nearly 100 kids + their parents who shared in this Gospel-centered week with us. Continue to pray for conversations among those families in the coming weeks and for little hearts to turn toward Jesus. Also, be sure you're following CGKids on Facebook and Instagram for some fun videos and pictures we'll be sharing from the week.

HOW CAN WE PRAY FOR YOU?

We know these times are challenging on many levels and each is facing new and different challenges as the weeks go on. Our staff team would love to talk, pray with and encourage you with God's Word. Reach out to the team by emailing info@cglife.org or calling the church office at 336.766.5727.

"For I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth." Psalm 121:1-2

Last weekend, Jay Hardwick led us through Psalm 121, reminding us that God is with us when we are weary. If you missed joining us Sunday, catch the message again on the website or the CG app.

WEEKLY EQUIPPING

As Jesus changes us, he changes our heart and our desires. Instead of desiring that people know and affirm us, He gives us the desire to share His Good News so that others know and receive Him! Like Jesus, we’ve been sent to take the message of the Gospel to the world around us. Living on mission is not about inviting people to church, it’s about being the Church and taking Jesus to people. This week, we talk about practical ideas from our summer bucket list to grow in this area this summer. Catch the full equipping moment and related resources here.

REOPENING OUR CAMPUSES

As you know, our state is remaining in Phase 2 for at least another three weeks. Therefore, at this time, Center Grove will continue to stay online for Sunday worship services. We are continuing to encourage life groups to begin meeting in homes or outside following the group size and social distancing recommendations.

"For you have been my help, and in the shadow of your wings I will sing for joy. My soul clings to you; your right hand upholds me." Psalm 63:7-8

Last weekend, Joseph Tucker led us through Psalm 63, addressing the "Age of Anxiety" that seems to plague our world (and too often our lives). If you missed joining us Sunday, catch the message again on the website or the CG app. You will not want to miss this essential word for our time!

WEEKLY EQUIPPING

As Jesus changes us, He gives us a desire to serve others rather than be served. We like to say that “we look most like Jesus when we serve the needs of others.” Practically speaking, serving is meeting a need – it’s giving of ourselves in love for another. This week, we talk about practical ideas from our summer bucket list to grow in this area this summer. Catch the full equipping moment and related resources here.

SUMMER ADVENTURE

Heads up! Registration for Summer Adventure closes this Sunday, July 12. This year, Summer Adventure is a 3-day family experience for kids and their parents! In order to best manage attendance, 3 time slots are available each day, space is limited and registration is required. Learn more about Summer Adventure 2020 here.

WELCOME ROMAN HENDRICKS!

We are excited to introduce you to the newest member of the Center Grove staff team - Roman! Roman will be serving on our worship team as the worship leader for our Sherwood Forest campus and our CGStudents ministry. We are grateful to God for bringing Roman and his wife, Brittany, to us. Let's give them a warm Center Grove Family welcome!

July 1 | 2020

We know that all are looking forward to the day we get to gather again for worship on our campuses. See below an update from our leadership team on Center Grove's recovery plan in response to the latest in our state.

WEEKLY EQUIPPING

As Jesus changes us, He gives us a desire to grow in our knowledge of Him as the true center of all things instead of desiring to be the center of our own universe. So how do we grow to know God more? We get in His Word! We learn Christ’s ways in both our corporate time together and in our own personal study and reflection on His Word. This week, we talk about practical ideas from our summer bucket list to grow in this area this summer. Catch the full equipping moment and related resources here.

We realize many are wondering when things will get back to "normal" and when we might start meeting together again. See below an update from our pastor on reopening church and how our leadership is walking wisely through decision-making in these coming weeks.

WEEKLY EQUIPPING FOCUS

This week's equipping is dedicated to women in honor of Mother's Day! We live in a world with an overwhelming amount of voices shouting at us about how we should live and act as women and it’s a genuine struggle to sift through the noise with a Gospel lens to know what is right and true. The resources shared this week seek to help us in this area - bringing us back to God's Word and filling us with the truth. Access this week's equipping video and related resources here.

CELEBRATING GOD AT WORK

We continue to celebrate how God has worked through our church and through your generous giving in our community this season! We've received multiple messages and emails in response to the serve projects, and want to share a few to encourage you today. God is at work!

"My daughter is a late night team leader for EVS  and was overjoyed and truly grateful for the incredible generosity that Center Grove and your team exemplified in the goody bags you all gave. She said it lifted the spirits of the whole team and made everybody feel like they had an Easter basket. What a sweet, kind expression of love you all have shown to one of our hardest working teams."

"What a thoughtful thing to do for us - your neighbors - I wish you well and thank you for your kindness"

"What a blessing to see love and concern in action."

"Thank-you and your church for such generosity with the gift bags for our staff."

"Thank-you for your kind thoughtfulness during this period of confinement for so many of us."

"What you and your congregation did to show thoughtfulness and caring to your neighborhood was the most wonderful gesture I have seen in a long time."

April 22 | 2020

In a season where "church" has certainly changed, we know that our God has not! He is unchanging and has continued to work through His people amidst the uncertainty that surrounds us. We are rejoicing over the 200+ FollowOn guides that were picked up this week! That's 200+ people being lead to engage with God's Word on a deeper level. Praise God for what He is doing in the hearts of people!

WEEKLY EQUIPPING FOCUS

Last Sunday, we introduced a new element to our services focused on resources and equipping.  Along with Dr. Corts' message on the need for rhythms of personal worship, we shared a few tools to help you begin those habits in your own life. Access this week's equipping video and related resources here.

YOUR GIFTS AT WORK - AGAIN!

This week, some of our Sherwood Campus families assembled and delivered over 400 care packages to homes in the community right around Thomas Jefferson Middle School. Within just a few hours of delivery we started getting emails - thanking the Center Grove family for their generosity and care. Thank-you for your generosity! It’s your continued gifts at work that lead to projects like this to our neighbors. Pray for God to speak to the families that have received these bags.

WEEKLY EQUIPPING FOCUS

This weekend, we're introducing a new element to our services focused on resources and equipping. As you know, the mission of our church is to "make disciples" - therefore we want to remain intentional about equipping you to grow in relationship with Jesus as well as disciple the kids and students that may be in your home. Each week we will take a moment to highlight a couple resources focused on a specific stage of life, topic or area of study. Look out this Sunday for our first equipping moment and don't forget about the list of resources we've compiled and shared for A Season at Home.

RIGHT NOW MEDIA

Speaking of, one of our favorite resources for all ages is called Right Now Media. You can access it via the web, smart TV, phone or tablet. If you do not currently have access to Right Now Media - contact info@cglife.org to let us know and we will get you signed-up for free through Center Grove!

GOD AT WORK

We continue to hear stories of God at work in homes and neighborhoods in our community and want to hear more! How has God been at work in your life this season? What are you doing personally or as a family to keep him at the center and share the love of Jesus with others? Send an email to info@cglife.org or share pictures/videos on social media! Just remember to tag @centergrove so we can see and share with others.

YOUR CHURCH IS HERE

Just another reminder that your church is here for you. If you need prayer or care or simply want to talk with someone, call the church office during normal business hours or email at anytime to reach out. We want to hear from you!

EASTER SUNDAY WITH CENTER GROVE

Join us for church online this Sunday at 9:15 and 11am! We have a special Easter experience planned which includes a time for our CGKids. Though we are not gathering on campus - you can still invite a friend! Keep an eye out on our social media for some easy ways to invite those around you to worship online with us.

24HOURS OF PRAYER

Friday evening begins our 24 hours of unbroken prayer! This is a wonderful way for us to pray in a united way for Easter weekend and our current world situation. Sign-up to join us for an hour of prayer on the events page. Upon signing up, you'll receive a prayer guide as well as information on how to join in for a virtual prayer time lead by a prayer leader through Facebook.

YOUR GIFTS AT WORK

We are overwhelmed at the continued generosity of the Center Grove family. Just last week you donated three tons (yes, tons!) of food for families in the community. Also, your continued financial gifts have allowed us to be generous toward those on the front lines of the Coronavirus pandemic. This week, the CG staff packed and delivered 650 bags for the housekeeping staff at our local hospitals. They were astonished that someone would think of them and care in that way. May God be glorified!

April 1 | 2020

What a joy it was to see so many step in and donate goods to our local ministry partners this past Sunday. In just 4 hours, you gave over 5,100 items! Praise God! We are continuing to collect those items throughout the week at the church offices and will be updating you on other ways to serve in the weeks ahead.

Today, pause and think about those right around you and in your sphere of influence. Is there someone who has a need for groceries, help in the yard or simply someone to talk with? God has placed you where you are for His purposes. Who can you love like Jesus and extend the gospel to today?

EASTER WITH CENTER GROVE

Though Easter will look different this year, we are seeking to make the most of it for the gospel! Easter week begins this Sunday as we recognize Palm Sunday together. Beginning Monday, we are providing daily devotionals to focus our hearts and minds on the Easter story. They will be shared on the website and social media and also sent to your email inbox each morning. Each day's devotional will include a family piece as well as a way to connect on social media.

We will also be holding our annual 24Hours of prayer beginning Friday evening, 4/10. This is a wonderful way for us to pray in a united way for Easter Weekend from our homes. Check out the events page to learn more and sign-up for an hour of prayer.

A FEW CALENDAR CHANGES

As you well know, we are anticipating not being able to gather for quite a few weeks. Therefore, we felt it best to go ahead and make decisions on some of our upcoming events. DNOW weekend and Family Dedication have both been postponed to the fall, Summer Adventure will be pushed back to July, and we are working to reschedule the missions trip to Boston for a later time as well.

OPPORTUNITIES TO SERVE

Through Friday, we will continue to collect items for the "Drop it Off" initiative in partnership with our friends at the Rescue Mission, Storehouse for Jesus and City Lights. Bring donations by the Church Offices from 9-5 during the week. Items needed: canned vegetables, fruits and soups, Ramen noodles, peanut butter and jelly, coffee and powdered creamer. You can also drop-off any non-pershibles you already have if you're unable to make it to the store.

TAKING ADVANTAGE OF TIME AT HOME

We recognize the great challenge that this season at home is bringing for many, but also don't want to miss the great opportunity that it can be! We've compiled a list of ideas and resources for all ages to utilize during this season at home. Check them out here! New resources are being added each week.

March 25 | 2020

While we continue to live in this season of so many unknowns, we rest in the truth that God is 100% in control. If you find yourself getting discouraged or fearful, quickly turn and run to Jesus. Pray for Him to be your strength for He alone is sufficient to meet our deepest needs! Also - our staff team would love to pray specifically for you! Email us at info@cglife.org with specific prayer needs you are facing.

Below you'll find new opportunities to serve the community and access resources for your family. We've also included reminders and general information related to this time where we are not able to gather physically.

A word from our Pastor in response to COVID-19

March 17 | 2020

We will begin providing weekly COVID-19 updates via email, the website and social media. In addition, Dr. Corts will be speaking to us in the coming days and weeks ahead about how we can walk through this season as believers and as a church family with Christ at the center.

As a church, we have plans in place to keep being the church while doing church in new and different ways. We acknowledge that much right now is day-to-day and will adjust our plan as needed, but for the next 4-8 weeks, here is how we are planning to be the church and do church together!

Worship and Teaching

Our Sunday worship experience is going online! Each Sunday, join us for church online at 9:15 and 11am through the “watch live” link at cglife.org and on the Center Grove app. If you are unable to watch live or if that is a particular challenge, please contact us at info@cglife.org or by calling the church office at 336.766.5727 and we will work to get you access to weekly teaching.

Parents are encouraged to access these materials on Sunday or during the week and spend time walking through them with their child. If desired, we have also prepared packets containing printed copies of the week’s lessons that will be available for pick-up at the CG offices during normal business hours.

Adult Life Groups

Due to the recommended social distancing and group restrictions, life groups will not be meeting on campus or in homes during this season. Life group leaders will be checking in regularly with their group members for prayer and to assess any needs that arise.

Opportunities to Give

Church doesn’t stop when public worship isn’t possible! Please continue to pray, continue to love and grow and serve and share, and remember to keep giving – the work we are doing together goes on!

Each week, you can give online or via text (simply text “cglife” to 73258). If giving online/text giving is new to you – this may be a great time to try it out! You can also mail your tithe check to the church office at: 8750 Lasater Road Clemmons, NC 27012.
